The Missing Universal Logic The Emerging New Science Ashok Gangadean, Ph.D.
Perhaps the deepest drive in human inquiry through the ages and across cultures and worldviews—whether in philosophy or science—has been the quest to encounter and express the fundamental field of Reality. And when we rise to a truly global perspective and expand our horizon to incorporate the vast spectrum of investigations and articulations—east, west and other—certain striking patterns become evident. One great lesson in this global perspective is that it makes all the difference how we conduct our minds—how we process reality. It becomes apparent that in the evolution of consciousness—of cultures, of philosophy, of scientific inquiry—there has been a relentless quest to develop or uncover a universal grammar or logic to express the ultimate principles, patterns and dynamics of the fundamental field of Reality. One great lesson in this human drama is that when we conduct our mind or thinking in egocentric or monocentric patterns of thought, for deep incoherence, incommensurabilities, dualities, fragmentation, and pathologies of life and reason result. And yet human cultures (including philosophy and science) continue to be dominated by these dysfunctional patterns of minding which distort and eclipse our best efforts to know reality.
The global perspective makes evident that humanity still lacks an adequate Universal Grammar or Logic of the Fundamental Reality, and that certain traditions of science, philosophy (and culture-making in general) continue to be dominated by reductive patterns of thought that generate rational pathologies that eclipse the universal grammar of the Unified Field of Reality with devastating consequences. Here we see that the Fundamental Reality must be an integral, infinite unified field of dynamic relations which requires thought-patterns that flow in the Holistic Logic of this Field. In my presentation I attempt to bring out this missing Primal Logic of the Unified Field and seek to draw out the missing Universal Grammar that is now essential for the advancement of Philosophy and Science. I suggest that this missing Logic is not only vital for decoding the ultimate structures, patterns and dynamics of Reality, but is first and foremost a Logistic (a missing technology of mind) for the right conduct of thinking, consciousness, world-making and the processing of Reality. I suggest that this Logic of the Unified Field is the maturation of Natural Reason which is now essential for the advancement of science, philosophy and the flourishing of human cultures.
Primary Perception as a Basis for Biocommunication (Some Practical Examples Involving Possible Nonlocality) Cleve Backster
In my presentation, using projections of the actual tracings involved, I will attempt to trace Backster Research Foundation involvement in biocommunication research. Starting with the first high quality observation of a plant’s reaction to human intentionality, on February 2, 1966, the research progressed through a series of additional plant observations, leading to the carefully conducted experiment entitled Evidence of a Primary Perception in Plant Life. This was published in 1968 by the International Journal of Parapsychology. The research then expanded to the electroding of eggs, bacteria, animal cells, and then to the monitoring of human cells separated from their donor.
I will then detail the research involving the monitoring of human leukocyte cells using EEG type instrumentation. Here the research suggests that distance between the donor and laboratory monitored leukocytes does not appear to be a restricting factor. The initial research traversed distances ranging from 5 meters in the laboratory to more than 12 kilometers from the San Diego laboratory location. Details concerning this research were published in 1985 by the International Journal of Biosocial Research.
Subsequent research with plants and bacteria, using a state-of-the-art shielded room suggests that the communication does not appear to fall within the currently understood electromagnetic spectrum. Additional work with human leukocytes between the donor in Phoenix, Arizona, and our San Diego laboratory suggests distance not to be a restricting factor. Although the communication speed cannot be realistically determined because of limitations using earth distances, the nature of primary perception, as a basis for the suggested biocommunication, seems to fall within the increasingly popular quantum physics concept of “nonlocality.”
Reprints of the mentioned publications, along with additional material, will be distributed to each of the scientists attending the Unified Science Conference.
Conservation of Energy, Life, and the Simple Universe Milo Wolff, Ph.D.
I wish to talk about the philosophy and physics of Nature, avoiding mathematics and abstract academic concepts. It is not always desirable to use mathematics just to gain precision at the expense of understanding matter and its role in the universe. The newly found knowledge of the very simple wave structure of the electron and proton makes it possible to do this. (Mathematical versions of this work are available to the interested reader. Some are on www.QuantumMatter.com.)
I will describe a complete fundamental physics of Nature, which results from the simple replacement of the ancient notion of a point mass ‘particle’ with a spherical-wave quantum structure traveling in a hardly noticed medium—our space. Only this change is needed. Famous mathematicians and physicists had proposed this idea for more than a century, but the science community was not interested until recently. This attitude is seen in a quote from Winston Churchill:
“We often stumble onto the truth but most of us brush ourselves off and pretend it did not happen!”
The replacement process requires three simple Principles, which describe the properties of the wave medium, which is the (seemingly) empty space around us. The three principles are Nature’s scheme for constructing all matter (particles) in the universe, and are the origin of the Natural Laws. Nothing else is needed. The result is a geometric picture of the Wave Structure of Matter (WSM), Nature, and the Universe. Total agreement with the measured laws is the proof.
Principle I: A Wave Equation. Most waves in Nature obey equations which are a mathematical statement that energy of motion in a medium (string, pipe, drumhead, water, etc.) exchanges back and forth with energy of tension in the medium. The characters of the waves are always properties of the medium. The quantum waves in a uniform space medium, needed to describe a single particle like an electron, are two spherical waves moving inward and outward at the velocity c, which is termed a space resonance. The wave centers are the locations of the particles. The figure shows only one particle; however, in reality, the universe is filled with inter-mixed trillions of such waves from all particles.
Principle II: The Wave Medium. The density of the medium of the waves is proportional to the sum of the amplitudes of all the waves present at each point. Thus, the medium is a result of the waves from matter everywhere in the universe. (This is the origin of Mach’s Principle (1893), which seemed so mysterious when he made it.)
Principle III: The Minimum Amplitude Principle. Every stable configuration seeks minimum amplitude of the waves. This principle determines how structures (particles) attract or repel each other or move, as in gravity. For example, electrons always attract positrons.
Enormous simplicity has been achieved by new knowledge of the Wave Structure of Matter (WSM). The smallest particles, electrons, and the largest galaxies are interconnected by three simple principles of Nature. The scope of the WSM becomes breath-taking when we realise we live in an interconnected universe.
“We have to think of ourselves, our bodies, our brain and its mind, as inextricably joined with other matter of the universe. The structure of every atom and molecule within us depends on the rest of the universe. If the stars did not exist, we could not exist. Quantum matter principles tell us so.”
The WSM predicts the natural laws exactly as they are observed and yields their origin from the wave properties of matter. All the forces of nature are seen to have a simple common origin. These origins and simplicity are the ancient dream of the great natural philosophers: Aristotle, Newton, Gauss, Berkeley, Einstein, Schroedinger, and many others. The dream has become reality.
In the course of my presentation on the WSM, I intend to shed a new light on the following issues:
- The role of energy and the mechanism of energy transfer in information transfer.
- What is the Conservation of Energy?
- Why is energy conserved?
- Elimination of the so-called quantum paradoxes/mysteries: the wave-particle duality and the collapse of the wave function.
- How the simple Wave Structure of Matter (WSM) contains the complex General Theory of Relativity (GTR) by reducing both concepts to a single statement:
All the matter (‘particles’) in the universe determines what space is, while space informs matter (‘particles’) how they must behave.
Also, I would like to invite others in the conference to discuss the following issues and more:
- What is the nature of space or the space medium of the waves? Why do we not observe the space medium?
- What is the role of consciousness in Nature?
- Everything from nothing? It is philosophically very intriguing to know that our universe can be rearranged in such a way to show that the sum of all energy and matter totals to ZERO!
Fundamental Patterning in the Universe And Its Reflections in Consciousness and Daily Life Foster Gamble
If there is a fundamental patterning of energy in the Universe, then the better we understand it, the better we can consciously function in harmony with it. This can lead to sustainability as a species and joyous, healthy living as individuals.
In the first part of this presentation, I will discuss the torus as the fundamental self-sustaining dynamic of curvature of the space medium, the vector equilibrium as the basic metaphysical system and the Isotropic Vector Matrix as the metaphysical field geometry. I will show examples illustrating the fundamental nature of these patterns—and how they operate as one—at the full range of visible phenomenon, from molecules to the clustering of galaxies.
Then I will share many new 3D animations illustrating the simple, least-effort principles guiding the development of complexity in the space/time of the sensory world. We will investigate how these constraints may also determine the atomic periodicity of the Chemical Table of Elements. Correlations will be explored between this approach and the work of Walter Russell on the “pressure points” of the Periodic Table, the interpenetration of vortices of expansion and contraction, and the dynamics of “seeming motion” in the field.=
The third part of the presentation will explore how knowledge of this patterning of the medium can inform the challenge for human beings of bringing optimum consciousness to essential aspects of daily life. I will show how this awareness, when put into practice, can enhance our capabilities at the physical, emotional, mental and interpersonal levels. I will offer examples from my professional experience in peak performance sports training, brainwave feedback meditation, and conflict resolution facilitation.
Finally, we will look from a geometric dynamic view at the role of free will and the correlation of the quantum of action with the quantum of uncertainty.
Neo-Russellian Cosmogony, Basic Theory Chester Hatstat and Jerry Williams
The uniqueness of the Russell Cosmogony resides in the wholeness of its explication of the patterned thinking of Cosmic Mind as cause of the cosmic patterning of the universe. Consciousness, as the primary substance of the universe, Self-contemplates. Therein, Consciousness experiences itself through thought-wave images-cum-matter wave images. Our presentation builds a logical context for how matter appears from Consciousness and disappears back into Consciousness in eternal cycles of rhythmically balanced creating-decreating interchanges. We utilize a three faceted model of the universe to assist in our explication and understanding of the fundamental processes-structures-contents employed by Cosmic Mind in the ordering-ratiocination of the One Whole, timeless-spaceless Idea of Creation into emergent three dimensional ideas-effects, interacting within/upon a implicate, holographic space-time matrix.
A historical overview of Mind/Consciousness as the primal source of creation will precede our overview of the Russell Cosmogony. In the overview, we will explicate the mechanism of creation, i.e., the conceptualization-ratiocination of the One Whole Idea into binary complementary opposites of multiple ideas, the primordial thinking pattern of concentration-decentration, a cubic wave-field as the space-time matrix-holon, the geometry dynamics of energy patterns within the cubic wave-field, the propagation of electromagnetic radiation, the patterned potentiation of the holographic space-time matrix, and the wave field geometries and generative-radiative spiral wave dynamics that determine the octave periodicities in the cyclic integration-disintegration of systems of matter. Our presentation includes discourses on the evolution of planets and moons from solar and planetary ring formations, supporting evidence for Russell’s predictions of the expansion of planets within solar systems, and possibilities for the fundamental geometric patterning of atomic systems.
Unified Spiral Nature of the Quantum and Relativistic Universe Vladimir B. Ginzburg, Ph.D.
The great importance of geometry in nature was recognized a long time ago by the ancient Greek scientists, and since then geometry became present in all the theories of physics. Remarkably, out of all possible geometrical shapes available in nature, it was the spiral shape that was to play an exclusive role in both the construction of our universe and sustaining its existence for billions of years. The spiral field theory fully subscribes to the assessment of the unique role of the spiral shape in nature. Moreover, it shows that by recognizing the spiral character of Nature, one can get even closer to discovering some of Her secrets. Here are the key discoveries of the spiral field theory.
- Discovery of the unique multiple-level spiral shape called the helicola, in which a spiral is wound around another spiral in both enlarging and diminishing directions. The helicola outlines the geometry of both micro- and macro-worlds and leads to a completely new understanding of multi-dimensionality.
- Discovery of the ultimate spiral field velocity that is slightly greater than the velocity of light, and showing that the spiral field is formed as a result of deviation of its velocity of propagation from the ultimate spiral field velocity.
- Discovery of two prime spiral elements of nature, torix and helix, which are particular cases of the helicola, with leading and trailing spirals representing electric and magnetic fields respectively.
- Discovery of polarization processes that produce three types of torices from empty space by following the laws of conservation of energy and electric charge: Energy-polarized torices with mutually reverse flow of both energy, outward and inward, and time, forward and backward, that are respectively called the real and imaginary torices;
- Vorticity-polarized torices with mutually inverse direction of their vorticities, left-handed and right-handed;
- Complementary-polarized torices forming the particles of matter and dynamic ether.
- Discovery of the relationships between the curvature an direction of vorticity of both torices and helices and their physical properties, including gravitational mass, inertial mass, and electric charge.
- Discovery of types of quantum energy levels of torices, oscillation level and excitation level, that create a great variety of both real and imaginary torices required to form elementary particles and micro black holes.
- Discovery of the unified nature of strong, gravitational and electric forces and explanation of the structures of nuclei of complex atoms and gravitational fields.
- Discovery of a mechanism of formation of helices as a result of the shift of torices from higher to lower quantum energy levels, with the excitation helices forming electromagnetic waves and the oscillation helices forming neutrinos.
- Rediscovery of the two principal by Wheeler and Feynman’s absorber theory that explained instantaneous transmission of instantaneous transmission of information across the universe.
- Retarded waves, or conventional waves, that travel outwards from its source and forward in time, and associated with real torices;
- Advanced waves that travel backwards in time, from the future, to arrive at its source, and associated with imaginary torices.
- Discovery of dynamic ether and a mechanism for its creation called the Micro-Big-Bang inflation process. The dynamic ether is the most likely candidate for the missing dark matter. It provides three principal functions:
- Serving as a pool of embryonic matter, similar to the Higgs field, for the creation of new elementary particles;
- Assisting in the transmission of electromagnetic waves and neutrinos, with a by-product in the form of the microwave background radiation;
- Providing both the velocity and direction references to all the moving entities in the universe.
Connectivity in Nature and Consciousness Professor Ervin Laszlo
This paper introduces the foundations of a unified theory of quantum, cosmos, life, as well as consciousness. The key hypothesis it puts forward is that connectivity is universal in nature. Time- and distance-invariant coherence is known in particle physics (it constitutes quantum nonlocality) and has been discovered in specific domains of biology and cosmology, but it has not been recognized that it is quasi-universal. Yet such coherence, while in individual areas merely surprising, is entirely fundamental in its ensemble. Nonconventional forms of coherence among the parts or elements of systems, and such coherence among the systems themselves suggest universal connectivity among the observed phenomena.
This paper suggests that connectivity in nature is due to the response of the unified vacuum to the presence of charged particles and systems of particles in space and time. Particles and systems of particles structure the field of scalar potentials associated with the vacuum, and the structured scalar field “in-forms” the behavior and evolution of the particles and systems. The principal claim is that the unified vacuum conserves and conveys both (vectorial) energy and (nonvectorial) “in-formation” (as already suggested by David Bohm). This lays the basis for the nonmaterialist and nonreductionist conception that is likely to hallmark the next stage in the development of the contemporary sciences of nature, life, and psyche.
Quantum Monadology and Consciousness Teruaki Nakagomi, Ph.D.
We can find monadology structure everywhere in the activities of human beings, within culture and society. The monadology structure consists of (1) a set of monads (individuals); (2) an internal world, volition and consciousness of each monad; and (3) communication between monads and symmetrical correspondences among internal worlds (pre-established and post-established).
The author asserts that the monadology structure reaches to the ultimate level of physics and that the human-level phenomena result from this ultimate one. Furthermore, I can say that my consciousness is the consciousness of a monad of this ultimate monadology.
Quantum monadology is a trial model of this ultimate monadology, in which quantum physics and relativity principle are consistently incorporated into the monadology structure.
Quantum monadology directly addresses the three categories of problems of consciousness: (a) the easy problem — “How does consciousness function?”; (b) the difficult problem— “What is consciousness?”; and (c) the more difficult problems — “What am I?” and “What is NOW?” It is impossible to answer these problems in the present framework of physics except for part of the easy problem.
My presentation will start from an explanation of the monadology structure appearing at the human level. I will then describe principles of monadology by the use of symbolical models. I will then proceed to outline the essence of quantum monadology. At this conference, I will not describe the full formulation of quantum monadology, because it would require a great deal of the mathematical technique of theoretical physics. However, I am ready to discuss the mathematical aspect or formulations if requested.
Knowing the Unknowable: The Holon Theory of Everything Wing Pon, Ph.D.
The Holon Theory of Everything is a theory that not only integrates but also synthesizes the dualities in the cultural logic of eastern-ancient wisdom and modern science, right-brain intuitive-qualitative and left-brain intellectual-mathematical thinking, and the occult philosophy of soul and spirit and quantum-relativistic mechanics of elementary particles and quantum observers. Its theoretical applications make an initial attempt to resolve the unresolved issues in the understanding of God, not as a person, but in His or Her Science of Creation explained in the background of today’s cosmological theories, in the resolutions of paradoxes and completing the incompleteness in modern physics, and, finally, in understanding what we are as human beings. In short, a complete theory of reality must contain both qualitative and quantitative descriptions of the universe with us humans as quantum observers. The Holon Theory is such a theory.
The Holon Theory proposes a third component of matter. That is, matter consists of logic-wave-particle. A component of logic is added. These three aspects of matter are referred to as a Holon. To be truly holistic, this logic component is further composed of both math-logic and archetype-logic. The former addresses the left-brain reality of the scientific-intellectual-logical world, while the latter corresponds to the right brain understanding of the visual-initiative-experiential world. To develop the right brain understanding, in equal footing with the left-brain scientific knowledge, the Holon Theory proposes the following definitions for human body-mind/soul-spirit. Spirit is the non-local quantum aspect of self, whereas soul is defined in relativistic terms as the space-time continuum of self. Mind is defined as brain-soul communication, while the brain corresponds to electromagnetic physiology. The body, on the other hand, is the three dimensional aspect of the self.
The current picture of reality is one without a picture. This is the Quantum reality. According to the Quantum ontology, before an object is measured, nothing can be said about the object. That is to say, the world is represented by a fictitious quantum wave (wave function), denoted as C, with no pretensions to be real. What is real is the measurement. Since there is no information about the object before the measurement, the outcome of each measurement cannot be precisely predicted. In addition, what is measured is not the wave function y, but the square of the wave function CC*, where C* is the conjugate of C. And this square of the wave function has to do with the probability of influence with the measuring apparatus and the waves of different phases. Thus, the probability is zero for two wave functions having opposite phases. Therefore, the orthodox Quantum ontology suggests a statistical world of quantum randomness.
Although most physicists accept this ontology, a small but prestigious minority believes that there is a hidden ontology in Quantum physics. This group of minority physicists includes Albert Einstein (formulated the theory of relativity and the equivalent of a particle to a wave, namely the photon electric effect), Louis de Broglie (formulated the de Broglie wave in quantum physics, i.e., the equivalent of a wave to a particle), Erwin Schroedinger (formulated the quantum wave equation), David Bohm (the proponent for the hidden variable ontology in quantum physics), and John Steward Bell (formulated the theorem of non-locality). This group believes that quantum randomness stems not from Nature’s lawlessness but from hidden causes, or hidden variables. However, in order to explain all of the quantum properties, these variables must explain the non-local connections of every particle in the universe, be entirely invisible, and travel faster than light.
In the context of the Holon Theory, the proposed logic-information component of matter satisfies all three of the requirements for the hidden variable ontology. That is, the logic-information non-locally connects every particle in the universe. It is a spiritual aspect. So, it is non-physical and thus entirely invisible in the physical world. Finally, it expands at the speed of c10 (where c is the speed of light) and hence extremely faster than light. As a candidate for dark energy, this logic-information component can be interpreted as a hidden variable. However, it is not independent but exist simultaneously with both the wave and particle components of matter. Therefore, the Holon Theory is not a hidden variable theory, but it explains all the quantum properties and, at the same time, gives a physical picture of Quantum reality and resolves the quantum randomness problem. In addition, this logic-information component brings in the non-locality of the collective consciousness of an Archetypal universe of a priori, including God’s encoded logic in the information vacuum. In the Holon perspective, the Quantum universe is mainly the observed results, in the sense of symmetry breaks, of “lock-key” space-time activities of a Topological mirror-universe: a mirror between the “lock-logic” encoded in the Archetypal universe and the “key-logic” of the Quantum universe of observers.
In this conference, I shall introduce this Holon Theory by way of answering, in the perspective of archetype logic, the questions on consciousness and the cosmic mind together with six of the eleven unanswered questions of physics as reported in “The Greatest Unanswered Questions of Physics: Resolution of these profound questions could unlock the secrets of existence and deliver a New Age of science within several decades,” Discover, February 2002. These six questions are: (1) What is dark matter? (2) What is dark energy? (3) Do neutrino have mass? (4) What is gravity? (5) Are there additional dimensions? and (6) How did the universe begin?
Choice, Randomicity, Nonphysicalist Models of Consciousness, and Integral Archeoastronomy Thomas G. Brophy, Ph.D.
In order to investigate The Nature of Space (Vacuum/Plenum) and Its Relationship to Consciousness (If Any) we need to define the terms space/vacuum and consciousness. This presentation will focus on defining “consciousness”, especially as the term may relate to physical science. I plan to have two parts to the presentation, and to give more time to either part according to interest of the group.
Part I
First, I will overview the scientific and philosophical models of consciousness being put forth at the Tucson “Towards a Science of Consciousness” mainstream academic conferences. Those models emphasize “normalization” and “physicalism” – what are these concepts and do they make sense? Then, I will review the holonic Four Quadrant Integral approach emphasized by Wilber and the Spiral Dynamics approach, emphasizing how these approaches differ from the mainstream Tucson approaches. Next, I will review what some of the original founders of modern physics said they thought the then-new science of quantum mechanics might mean regarding consciousness. I will consider if and how any progress in this regard has been made since that time (the 1920s), focusing on the issue of “quantum decoherence” and especially quantum decoherence in the human brain.
In an attempt to integrate these overviews, I will describe some very simple nontechnical thought experiments, centered around the concepts of choice and randomicity, that can help identify which of the various camps of consciousness one believes in. These thought experiments also help illuminate some various ideas about “energy” and “information”.
Part II
I will describe some surprising new archaeological finds about very ancient prehistoric human knowledge. This topic at first may seem divergent from an emphasis on the relationship between laboratory physics and consciousness. But side trips in science often yield more than the direct route (especially if we don’t know where we’re going). These finds impact the theme of this meeting by greatly expanding the mainstream academic assumptions about the origin and history of human awareness and thus consciousness. If we suddenly know a lot more about how our consciousness used to be, we might have insights into how and what our consciousness is now.
Consciousness-based Biology and Biology-based Science Elisabet Sahtouris, Ph. D.
My talk is based on what might have happened had Galileo looked down through a microscope into a drop of pond water teeming with gyrating life forms instead of up through a telescope into the heavens, already conceived in his time as “celestial mechanics.” Might biology rather than physics have become the leading science into whose models all others must fit themselves? Might we see life not as an ultimately futile struggle to build up syntropic systems against the inevitably destructive tide of entropy, but as the fundamental nature of an exuberantly creative universe self-organizing endless levels of fractal complexity? Might we see life not as an aggregate of human-projected mechanisms assembling blindly through molecular collisions and evolving by accidental mutations, but rather as a continually reflexive learning play of possibilities in the ever more intelligent co-creation of complex evolving systems?
Using Maturana and Varela’s definition of life as autopoiesis—literally self-organization—we can see the vorticular/toroidal structures populating Galileo’s “heavens” as the self-organizing proto-life forms of the macro-world, while the vorticular/toroidal models of particles and atoms proposed by Walter Russell and emerging in various models within our group reveal their microworld complements in an elegant, unified, fractal universe.
Life has long been known by physiologists as a continuously and simultaneously spiraling process called metabolism, with anabolism as build-up and catabolism as recycling breakdown. Varela himself acquiesced to this author’s arguments that Earth clearly fits the autopoietic definition of a complex life form, complete with countless metabolic cycles from magma/ crustal buildup and breakdown to weather patterns and geobiological transformation cycles.
The previously separate disciplines of geology and biology merge as Earthlife becomes the very process of “rock rearranging itself” into bounded, mobile, reproducing creatures sharing a single self-organizing DNA code language that is tightly coupled with structural proteins in intelligent self-organization. Evolution itself is a series of intelligent responses to feedback within and among fractal levels (holarchies) of these packaged arrays of DNA/protein metabolic cycles we know as living entities (holons).
Bacteria, Protists (nucleated cells) and the Earth itself can be seen as three fractal levels of biological systems. A basic evolutionary cycle can be seen at all these fractal levels of holarchy and in all “time frames” from linear to simultaneous. This cycle begins with some unity and proceeds through individuation, tension and conflict, negotiations and resolution to cooperative alliance that brings about the next level of unity. This is illustrated in cellular evolution from individual archebacteria to cooperative nucleated cells, the greatest leap we know in all biological evolution, and may be relevant to our current struggle to create global unity in human culture. This cycle can readily be compared with human evolutionary or developmental models such as self-actualization or Spiral Dynamics.
Essential to this cycle when seen holarchically (simultaneously at all levels), is the self-interest of each and all levels, which is the driver in one of two directions: self-destruction of the holarchic system or negotiations and cooperation toward the mutual benefit of all levels, the thrival of the system as a unity. Currently competitive evolution theories (evolution by competition among individuals or species or “selfish genes”) for example, can be reconciled by seeing them holarchically as and levels of integral systems.
- Whence the intelligence of these living systems in a living universe? Can life evolve from non-life?—intelligence from non-intelligence?—consciousness from non-consciousness? Using Descartes’ methodology of introspection to discover the most fundamental elements of our knowledge, I, too, arrived at the recognition that only my consciousness—my mind, my awareness and thought process—is my certainty, and that all my experience is confined to it. Therefore, if my science is to have integrity, it must take my consciousness as a fundamental assumption and strive to order my experience meaningfully within it.
- In exploring my consciousness I find it has no outer or inner bounds, but is experientially infinite (I cannot think a thought I cannot think; there is no limit to new thoughts) and my thoughts arise from one another like fractal birthing. My experience of interaction with others confirms that they, too, have all their experience within such individual consciousness, that each of us is at the unique center of our boundless consciousness and that we can share our consciousness domains with each other on various levels. These levels range from the shared communication of verbal language and gesture by which we find social agreement on common experience to a communion far deeper than what is implied by our impoverished concept of “telepathy.” In my conception, all Nature is a deep dialogue among consciousnesses that together comprise all Nature.
- Many indigenous and urban/technological human cultures have built their sciences upon this fundamental assumption of a consciousness universe, and among the most highly developed, such as the Vedic, techniques have been developed over many centuries for merging individual consciousnesses not only with each other but with an ultimate field of Cosmic Consciousness.
- Contemporary western quantum physics, despite its commitment to a materialist worldview, has led some of its leading proponents (notably Bohr, Pauli, Bohm) to seeking experience and formal description of this same source field. Consciousness is decidedly on the western scientific agenda after centuries of sweeping it under the rug. By building our science on the assumption of a conscious rather than non-conscious universe and seeking in it the patterns of life rather than non-life and intelligence rather than non-intelligent accident, we stand to gain nothing less than a thriving and sustainable human future.
In my choice to see a consciousness-based biology and a biology-based science, it should be obvious from my use of vorticular/toroidal patterns and of spiraling cycles, from the relationship of metabolic anabolism/catabolism cycles to syntropy (centropy)/ entropy loops, from my fractal holarchic conception of a living universe, my view of all Nature as consciousness in deep dialogue with itself, that this life-focused model is consciously conceived as compatible with the models of others in our group—physicists, logician and philosophers. I hope we will continue to inform each other toward ever greater unity in our diversity.
Resolving Dualities Into Three Facets Paul Von Ward
USP Science Group e-mail exchanges (Elisabet, Milo, Tom, Nassim, Laara, and Yasuhiko) have identified several dualities or complementarities that elude resolution and thus the conceptualization, and possible validation, of a unified science.1 It has been suggested (Yasuhiko) that the same challenge exists regarding the equally elude synthesis of science and spirituality.2 This presentation ponders whether a more successful approach might be the “dissolving” of such complementarities or polarities into a “three- faceted” Ouroboros spectrum, which itself retains the quality of unity or Oneness.
For instance, the antipathy between science and metaphysics appears to be erased by subsuming the two into a metascience.3 Similarly, Milo’s WSM (wave structure of matter) theory of the tangible universe4 neatly describes the physical facet of a 3-facet universe. One which includes the currently ineffable “force that causes all motion” (and gravity) as a function of the expression (giving force to) of conscious intent (µ>) by one or more conscious beings.
This paper identifies several mutually incompatible pairs of concepts or definitions surfaced by the Science Group, suggests ways they may fit into a larger 3-faceted model, and reviews various research projects that point to the need for a new research protocol to validate these propositions. The paper claims that any wholistic theory characterized as a unified science, susceptible to validation by “the science of the human being in its universe” (SHBU), must meet certain criteria. These criteria and the need for them are elaborated.
Elsewhere, I have posited that a 3-faceted model of the finite universe could resolve the duality (an unbridgeable gap) between consciousness (Ñ) and matenergy (Æ or E=mc2) by the inclusion of a subtle energy realm (‘).5 The three facets-noumena (Ñ for consciousness), energeia (‘ for prana or quantum medium), and phenomena (Æ for all matter-energy)-coincident to one another comprise the Oneness of our integral universe. The three facets making up the One may be represented as Ø=Ñ+‘+Æ. The model does not deal with the question of a larger cosmos from which this universe might derive.
I accept the WSM resolution of the wave/particle paradox into a collective phenomena or “matenergy” (polarity of physical matter and energy). I assume the “thinking” or expressive pole of the noumena (“knowing” is its receptive pole) activates areas (imposes vectors or patterns) of the quantum medium or space plenum (energeia) that concentrate portions of the WSM to inform specific “structures”. These “structures” (Milo’s term)6 make up the tangible universe susceptible to perception by our physical senses. I believe we can also demonstrate that our subtle senses can discern the subtle energy patterns (energeia) that cannot be perceived by our ordinary senses and that local mind can communicate beyond space-time with other aspects of the noumena.
Dualities Challenge Science Group. Included are “mind-from-matter” versus “matter-from-mind”, implicate vis-a-vis explicate, thinking and knowing, matter or energy and mind or energy, polarity of infinite-finite, primordial light equals quantum waves, construction versus deconstruction, Strong/E-M/Weak Force vis-a-vis Strong/Medium/Light Gravity (inertia), oscillation as in/out breathing.
Criteria for SHBU. Expansion of the standard model into a unified science that merits the label SHBU must, inter alia: a) encompass all aspects of human experience; b) include only postulates that can be reasonably tested in a cause/effect protocol; c) include only one unknown facet as a dependent variable in each protocol; d) exclude assumptions about third forces, causes or variables that cannot be subjected to inter-personal validation; etcetera.
Merging Physics and Consciousness. R. Jahn and B. Dunne (PEAR Laboratory at Princeton) have consistently demonstrated the impact of conscious intent on both mechanical and electronic systems. Their search for the linking process or medium has resulted in a 4-faceted quadratic model (Consciousness/Tangible Physics/Unconsciousness/Intangible Physics)7 which, unfortunately, is not testable for the reasons described above. Cleve Backster has powerfully and consistently demonstrated a level of primary perception or communication between a human’s emotional expression of intention and living cells independent of the subject.8 His focus has not involved testing hypotheses about either the process or medium of communication. Jacques Benveniste’s research on homeopathy and a confirming pan-European experiment9 demonstrate the ability of energeial patterns (‘) to interact with the WSM (Æ). A link to conscious intent (µ>) has not been experimentally demonstrated.
Could an expansion of Backster’s dual model, the reduction of the PEAR quadratic model to a 3-faceted model, and incorporation of conscious intent in Benveniste’s protocol further all areas of research? This paper explores how such research protocols could validate the respective contributions of 3 facets.
