God, Man, and=20 Politics

Senator=20 Melford Okilo

I have traveled from = Africa to=20 America to present an unusual topic: God, Man, and = Politics. All I=20 know about this topic is my little experience in touching others = as a=20 human being and in being able to identify and solve the problems = of=20 humanity; God=97I don=92t know God, but I know things that have = happened that=20 I believe are beyond human comparison so that we allude them to = God; and=20 what you call politics, the role I played in politics.

People who know me = know that I=20 have prospered in Nigerian and African politics for over forty = years. They=20 have been posing some questions to me. They ask me, =93Has = politics had any=20 special meaning for you, other than the dictionary meaning?=94 = Others ask,=20 =93Is there any relationship whatsoever between politics and the = Russellian=20 science and philosophy?=94 Since politics is noted by many people = as a=20 polluted profession, some people ask the question, =93Is there any = relationship whatsoever between the politics you are involved in = and=20 God?=94

The little I know is = not what I=20 have read somewhere, but real experience I have had on these three = topics,=20 which is what I=92m going to share with you.

Before doing that, may = I digress a=20 bit to brief some of you on the question of how I came from the = jungles of=20 Africa to the Blue Ridge Mountains (in Virginia) and right to the = old=20 settlements of the Indians at a place called Swannanoa (where the = Russells=20 founded the University of Science and Philosophy)? How come? It = was on the=20 eve of the Nigerian civil war=97the Nigerian-Biafran War=97and it = was destiny=20 that saved me from being caught in that civil war. As a young man = I had a=20 big mouth, and people promised me that they were going to close = that=20 mouth. I had a big mouth, not because I abused anybody; in all my = years in=20 Nigerian and African politics I have never pointed a finger at any = man. In=20 my dictionary of life, I don=92t know who my enemy is. So I took = everybody=20 as my brother and sister. But some of the troops, those who were = in power,=20 did not like to hear the truth, and I, who was on the receiving = side,=20 always had the courage to tell them what was going wrong in our = country,=20 and so they did not like me at all.

As God would have it, = through what=20 we now call inner-sensory perception or whatever form of = communication by=20 which we have a hint that things are not going to be as they used = to be, I=20 realized that I would have to leave the country. Thank God, I = found my way=20 out from the swamps of the Niger Delta, where my home is at the = Olibra Oil=20 Field. I managed to escape from there and destiny took me to the = streets=20 of New York on July 16th, 1965. Within three weeks, I saw a little = book to=20 which I was attracted. Not knowing what was in it, I bought it out = of mere=20 curiosity. I read it twice and more. The more I read the book, the = more I=20 sat back. In those days when people came in from Africa to this = part of=20 the world, either they came to look for the dollars or look for = book=20 learning. That was, of course, what I was originally thinking. = Then it=20 occurred to me that perhaps my coming here might not be for = book=20 learning or for looking for dollars. It might be for some other = purpose=97I=20 didn=92t know what then. After reading this book, The Man Who = Tapped the=20 Secrets of the Universe, I followed it up, and by December = of1965, I=20 was at Swannanoa at their Christmas gathering, where I met Mrs. = Russell.=20 Even then it did not dawn on me what the purpose of my being there = was.=20 But after that I got involved with the Russell studies. Much = later, they=20 described to me that what I could be looking for was the search = for=20 higher knowledge. I did not know what higher = knowledge=20 meant, but as I proceeded, I began to understand, bit by bit, that = higher knowledge is something that is not found in=20 textbooks.

I became more and more = curious,=20 but after meeting Lao Russell, there was no end to the study and = learning.=20 Long after Lao Russell refolded, some days I used to sit back and = think=20 whether I had not indeed met an angel in human form, and if I had, = that=20 woman would have been such an extraordinary human being, who was = here with=20 us in flesh and blood.

I do not want to = divert attention=20 from that about which the Russells themselves warned us as = students, that=20 the world has been making a lot of mistakes over the years, over = the=20 centuries, over the ages, that whenever a messenger is sent into = the=20 world, the world usually=97used to, I don=92t know whether we have = changed=20 now=97worships the messenger rather than living the = message.

For example, back home = in Africa=20 where I come from, I notice in the churches that people are = =93singing and=20 dancing with Jesus.=94 But the moment they get out of those = ceremonies, they=20 don=92t love one another any more. Two thousand years ago, that = young man=20 Jesus came and told us that we have one single purpose on Earth: = in this=20 costly drama called life, we have come to learn only one = thing=97not=20 two but one=97to do everything with love. The motive for = every action=20 should be nothing but love and selfless service. We talk about = him, but=20 few ever practice his message. If we did, the crisis we are in = today=20 should never have been there. With our consciousness, we can = change the=20 world, if the majority of us=97even a quarter of us=97are thinking = of nothing=20 but love and the welfare and the well-being of one another. = That=92s all. No=20 medicine, no secret organization will save us. Change your = attitude, be=20 free, and regard every human being who comes your way as your = brother and=20 sister. Whatever you are doing, don=92t taint the motive with = expectation of=20 award. That is the law: reduced to the Law of Balance, the = Creator,=20 Creation, everything observes one Law, not two laws. The = scientist, the=20 physicist, whatever work or profession one undertakes, all must = obey that=20 Law, the Law of Balance. In any transaction, in any relationship, = between=20 any two=97either between man and woman, or two men, or between two = nations,=20 or groups of nations=97we must insure that action and reaction are = equal and=20 balanced. Whatever we do to others shall be done to us; what you = have done=20 to others will be done to you, and all the Nigerian army, all the = atomic=20 bombs in the world, cannot save you. This is not preaching. This = is the=20 expression of the law, the inviolate law. The law that you break = will=20 break you to the extent of your breach of that law. But we ignore = this,=20 and keep looking for =93higher law.=94 There is no higher law = anywhere. This=20 is the only law. Those who do not observe it must pay the=20 price.

To try to answer the = questions of=20 what I see as the relationship between God, Man, and Politics, we = must=20 consider how I got involved with the Russell philosophy and = science, and=20 how I got closer to the answer to the relationship between these = topics.=20 Unfortunately I did not meet Lao=92s husband, Walter Russell, but = I had the=20 rare privilege of interacting with Mrs. Russell for twenty-three = years. It=20 was a great privilege. She used to joke with me when I told = her=20 stories about the jungles of Africa and how we used to jump from = one tree=20 to the other. After we had met two or three times, she said, = =93One day you=20 will be here, to be receiving guests on behalf of the = University.=94 I=20 thought that it was one of those things she said to =93pull my = leg,=94 so I=20 brushed it aside, and did not take what she said seriously=97until = almost=20 twenty years later, when I got a letter telling me that I had been = elected=20 in absentia as President of the University of Science and = Philosophy. I=20 couldn=92t believe it. Then I remembered what Lao had told me = twenty years=20 before. Did she know of this twenty years ago=97a fisherman like = me from=20 that part of the world, from the jungle, coming to this part of = the world=20 to stay not even for just one day but for a full year? So it = happened that=20 in 1996 I found myself on Afton Mountain as the President of the=20 University of Science and Philosophy.

There is a letter Lao = wrote, which=20 I would like to share with you: An accident of history had made me = the=20 elected Governor of Rivers State, the most coveted and richest = state in=20 Nigeria=97where we were producing about 90% of all the oil in = Nigeria. The=20 Military had become scared of the young politicians, so they = organized a=20 coup and clamped us down into detention. I was in detention for = three=20 years and seven months.

After we were sent to = detention,=20 the cabinet met for four months. The Nigerian press thought that = the=20 incarcerated politicians must all be wiped out; that unless they = were all=20 wiped out there would be no peace in Nigeria. So the Military was = happy.=20 After those four months, they decided to try us=97we thank God for = that. My=20 case, which was less than three to five hours long, sentenced me = to 105=20 years of imprisonment, in the absence of being shot. So we were = taken to=20 prison. Every other day they would call one man out. That person = would=20 never come back, and nobody would give any account. So in that = mental=20 state we lived for three years and seven months. Every day you = would think=20 it was going to be your turn to be called out and shot. In the = midst of=20 that, in one of the prisons I was at=97I was in all the major = prisons of=20 Nigeria=97I got a surprise. One day a policeman and prison warden = walked up=20 to me and told me I had a letter. A letter? Who would dare write = me here?=20 Looking at the letter, I saw that it was from Lao Russell. She = assured me=20 that nothing was going to happen to me. She knew that my hands = were clean,=20 and that I should not be afraid.

The security men did = not take it=20 kindly that I had received a letter from a woman in America. They = said=20 they were going to find out what that woman wanted of Okilo in = Nigeria. I=20 didn=92t say a word, but I was smiling within, thinking that I = wished they=20 knew who Lao Russell was. And so it was, at the end of the day, = our cases=20 went on appeal, and the Chief Justice of the Federation called the = prosecutors and asked them to release me within twenty-four hours, = or else=20 he was going to take action against them. What she had told me was = exactly=20 what happened. I was released. Nothing happened to me; they had no = case at=20 all, because the charges they brought against me were non-existent = charges=20 to begin with.

After my release, I = received=20 another letter from Mrs. Russell, dated the 22nd of March, 1988, = in which=20 she told me that God had told her that her time had come and that = she was=20 soon to return. I was writing a little book I had started in the = prison,=20 for which I wanted her to write an introduction. By the time I got = it to=20 her, she was gone.

When they are with us, = we do not=20 know who such people really are until they are gone. I have often = wished=20 that after I got out of prison I had come and sat by her feet. I = would be=20 a better human being than I am today.

The Russells told us = that what=20 they meant by higher knowledge was cosmic knowledge. = I=20 didn=92t know what it was all about, but eventually I came to know = that=20 cosmic knowledge means the light of the mind: the = light=20 of the mind that is in everyone. God is light, and everyone = has that=20 light within, which is not part of the organs of the body, but is = within.=20 At death, it flies away. I understand that that has been = photographed. And=20 that part of God in us has all the omnipotence, omniscience, and=20 omnipresence of God. It is within you, it is within everyone. We=20 understand that Socrates himself was going barefoot in the streets = of=20 Athens shouting, =93Man, know thyself.=94 What you see outwardly = is not the=20 =93man,=94 the real man is within you. Jesus came and = repeated what=20 Socrates had told mankind: that within you is a force that you can = use to=20 achieve whatever you want. All the knowledge, all the power, is = there.=20 Whatever God is, that power within is. It=92s just like a piece of = gold. If=20 today you take a piece of gold to the lab, grind it and put it = through=20 your machines and tests, you=92ll find that whether the piece is = large or=20 small, the strength is the same, just as a drop of water from the = ocean=20 will tell you the quality of that part of the ocean. That = light,=20 that invisible part of God, pervades the whole universe. But man = has not=20 listened. Man spends a hundred years trying to experiment on what = the=20 philosophers tell us is, and he wants to put everything = through=20 tests. Scientists are not satisfied until they study all the = effects,=20 while the man of philosophy has told us: Mind has no=20 limitations.

The search for truth = gives us=20 inner satisfaction. Fears and worries are dismissed. You have=20 extraordinary confidence in yourself. Some days you feel as though = you can=20 wrestle with the whole world, you alone. Nothing frightens you. In = politics=97I pray this is the last election that I=92ll undertake, = I don=92t=20 want to go again=97everybody knows that I am a poor man, with no = political=20 friends, brothers, or sisters. And because of this big mouth, they = don=92t=20 want me to come into politics. But when elections come, when = others come=20 with all their money and with all their strength, at the end of = the day,=20 it is this fisherman who beats them. So some people concluded that = because=20 once upon a time I was in America, I must have become involved = with=20 American magic and potions and so forth and so on, or they say = that=20 voodoo is the cause!

In fact, success is = because of=20 nothing more than the power of the mind. We rely on that power of = mind. To=20 other men, it is miraculous, it is wonderful. There are many = stories about=20 this divine spark, with all sorts of names: Jesus called it the = Kingdom of=20 Heaven Within. Everyone has his own name for it. Einstein, when he = was=20 pressed to tell where he got his knowledge of science, said that = it was=20 =93true religiousness,=94 meaning that he knew the divine spark, = the God=20 awareness, within him. So he knew how he was connected with his = Creator=20 and with the Universe; he knew how he was connected with everyone. = The=20 moment this something within you is touched, you realize it, and = like Walt=20 Whitman, you will see God in everyone, irrespective of his status, = his=20 condition of life. What you see is not the physical man. You know = that in=20 him is the same thing as in me, in you, and in everyone. He knows = what the=20 =93brotherhood of man=94 is. It is the same, no matter what = one=92s external=20 color. It has been photographed that when a man is dying, that=20 something that oozes out of the body is white, bright, = colorless=20 light. Everybody has the same thing. Men gained knowledge of this, = and=20 started looking for it. When you start looking for it alone, the = inner=20 satisfaction it gives you is beyond human description. Where is = the=20 importance in difference of size, age, or color? And so, with that = understanding, I went into politics, and I never lost an election = in=20 Nigeria. Nigerian politics is jungle politics: they can do = anything=20 to try to win over you! But no matter how hard they tried they = could not=20 stop me.

How is God related to = politics? To=20 the ordinary man, politics means cunning, deception, oppression,=20 exploiting the other man, and using a privileged position to deal = with the=20 enemy. People say, =93Look, politics is too rough. Men of = integrity=20 should not come near. If you come near, it will destroy you. = Politics is=20 meant for rascals. Politicians don=92t mind those deadly games. = Politics is=20 a very deadly game.=94 Frankly, I don=92t see politics in this = way. I see=20 religiousness in politics. I see sacredness in politics. The = definitions=20 of politics in the dictionary do not help at all. =93Science and = art of=20 government,=94 and so on. All definitions are literary = things=97mere words,=20 having nothing to do with the moral and spiritual nature and where = politics should go with it. But in my search, I found the = definition given=20 by Emerson in his Gospel, defining politics as an = activity of=20 the soul illustrated in power. Yes. So power is = politics, and=20 politics is not for money, not for numerical strength; politics is = from=20 the soul. And the soul is the mind and the soul is = ascending. The=20 Russells define this: the soul keeps the records and the mind does = the=20 thinking. The soul and the mind are two sides of the same coin; = you cannot=20 have one without the other.

The soul has this = power, and what=20 I am doing in politics should be that. Then politics is sacred, = coming=20 from God, from God in me. So we should not use this power for = evil. It is=20 meant for good. And God is good. Everything that is good belongs = to God.=20 It is recent history that the word =93Good=94 was a word for = =93God.=94 Everything=20 that is good, honest, kind, humble is God. Since I got that = definition,=20 and compared and contrasted it with the teaching of the Russells, = I have=20 never felt so satisfied within myself. I have used this = understanding=20 about the nature of politics successfully in my country, and I = believe=20 anybody can use it successfully in this country.

In the short span of = my life, our=20 country was divided into three regions. The big tribes had the = government=20 and power in their hands, but for the sake of our people we wanted = to=20 divide Nigeria into smaller states. I championed two causes for = two=20 states. The first state I championed for came into existence. We=20 succeeded, to the amazement of the ordinary men and women. When I = was=20 Governor, I could see that we needed to create yet another state. = The=20 second state I championed also came into existence. It is better = to=20 describe this fact than to describe the ordeal we went through to = achieve=20 that goal. The success could not be from me; it is of the = power of=20 the mind. The mind is the creator of the Universe. Whatever=97good = or=20 bad=97you set your mind on and walk towards, one day you will see = it=20 standing before you. This seems amazing, but in fact there is = nothing=20 special about it; walking towards the thing you believe in, not = minding=20 when, but by the time you achieve it, you know=97that is the power = of the=20 mind. Mind conceives idea and the body walks towards it to find = the=20 materials to clothe it, to bring that invisible idea to = visibility.=20 Nothing in the world is an exception to this process. If politics = is the=20 expression of power, then you are using God=92s power. It is not = money=20 power. If it were money power, I would not have been in most of = the=20 positions I have been in my public life. The accident of history = made it=20 possible for me with no money to become the Governor of Rivers = State of=20 Nigeria. My party could not finance me, because they believed that = the=20 party could not win. So I was left alone. When it so happened that = I was=20 elected, people were amazed; they could not believe it: a man = without=20 money, without connections, being elected Governor?

People see only the = bad side of=20 politics. But the common man can do something to help his fellow = human=20 beings, to help the suffering masses, to provide for those who are = not=20 provided for, and this can happen through politics. When I = became=20 Governor, I was able to build the first University of Science and=20 Technology in Nigeria. The Federal Government was afraid of doing = it. Yet,=20 as a mere Governor of a small state, I did it, although it brought = me=20 trouble, because, when I was impeached, they claimed that by so = building a=20 university, by doing something that the federal government could = not do, I=20 had wasted the government=92s money. But I knew that we could do = it, and we=20 did it, and the university we built is still today one of the best = and=20 most successful universities in Nigeria.

People in that part of = the world=20 had never seen anything called electricity. Yet gas had been = flared in my=20 vicinity twenty-four hours a day for nearly thirty years. So I = proceeded=20 to use the gas that was being flared to generate electricity for = the=20 people in the area. I was taken to court for daring to do = what the=20 federal government would not do=97for daring to touch that gas, = which=20 belonged to the federal government, not to the state government. I = ignored=20 them and went ahead. Today, the federation of Nigeria has no = electricity=20 except through using that gas turbine. Also, we were able to = reclaim land=20 in the swamps of the delta. Today, in places where there were = swamps,=20 there are big towns and cities. The canals I had cut are mighty = rivers=20 today. You would think that God had created them the day that He = created=20 Adam. But they are done by us! Who could do that except for = ourselves? The=20 millionaire will not spend his millions to provide social services = for=20 suffering masses.

So = politics=97there is no=20 short way; there is no way better in modern politics than to = exercise the=20 power of God within. Religion limits me. Organized religion limits = me.=20

By the end of the four = years that=20 I was in office, all of the four other strong political parties = became=20 members of the party of the fisherman=97I was popularly known as = the=20 fisherman. The power of love, the power of mind! And when that = something=20 in you is touched, you are humbled. You are bound to be kind. You = will=20 know what kindness means. You will know why you should do what it = is that=20 you are going to do. You will have nothing to fear. Nobody will do = you=20 harm. Anybody who wants to harm you will harm himself.

I remember what Lao = told me the=20 first time I went to see her. She was alone on the mountain. There = was no=20 big fence around Swannanoa. I asked her why she stayed there = without a big=20 fence and without a security man. She smiled and said that she was = protected by an invisible fence. I asked her what that fence was. = She said=20 =93love.=94  It=92s electricity. If anybody is going to touch = you or=20 destroy you, it is as if they are going to hold a live electric = wire. You=20 know what will happen=97they will be electrocuted. So why be = afraid? If a=20 person frightens you he doesn=92t know you. If he knows you, he = won=92t come=20 near you.

Power in man! We are = all=20 co-creators. We are all mini-gods to the extent that we KNOW. = Knowledge is=20 the only thing that man needs. And every age needs new knowledge.=20 Dark-Ages ideas are now gone. When new knowledge comes, it is = highly=20 recognizable. Two thousand years ago, a young man came and said, = =93You are=20 part of this drama called life. The Master Playwright designed = life so=20 that you can know what love is and put it into practice.=94 And = the only way=20 you can manifest love is through ethics.

In politics, what I = enjoy is the=20 extended freedom to give to everybody and talk to everybody, love=20 everybody and serve everybody. People look down on me for that. = They do=20 not know that therein lies my strength. We have to become humble, = we have=20 to become little children.

In politics, according = to Emerson,=20 not me=97the Russells confirm it=97the power that I have described = to you does=20 not come from me. I am using the omnipotent power that is within = man. If=20 you went to Nigeria and saw that this fisherman, who did not know = left=20 from right, could put down landmarks, you wouldn=92t believe it. = The power=20 of God! When you are in politics, you are asking God to give you = His power=20 to use it so that men can see. And there is no field, no = department of=20 knowledge that could have given me more opportunity to manifest = the power=20 of God in me than politics. I wish party members would read = sermons when=20 they go to party meetings. You cannot divorce politics from God. = Man finds=20 life very difficult because he refuses to enlist God. The Master=20 Playwright says, =93Go! I have given you this power for good, = which may also=20 be used for bad. Use the power for good.=94

Of all creation, to = man only has=20 God given free will. All other creatures are controlled by Him, = either by=20 polarity or by other means=97the power of instinct. Man alone has = free will.=20 And you must use that free will, your moral sense. If you misuse = it, don=92t=20 blame God. If you put your hand in fire, it will be burnt. If you = hold=20 electricity, you know what will happen to you. There is a power = within us.=20 We know it. Simply change your mind and know it and say that you = are a=20 mini-god and that you want to emulate God, and step into the shoes = of God:=20 God loves, God gives, God does not hoard, God does not fear = tomorrow. You=20 do not worry about what will happen tomorrow. Do your best. Leave = the=20 rest. By the time you know, the answer is there.

Let me tell you a = story. Someone=20 in Nigeria owed me money for many years, because he was unable to = pay. I=20 had forgotten about it. Recently, one of my daughters in America = was=20 involved in a car accident. The damages that she had to pay = amounted to=20 $8,000. In Nigeria, $8,000 is millions in local currency. I did = not know=20 what to do or where to go to get that kind of money. I hate going = to the=20 bank. I can=92t remember when I went to the bank to borrow money. = If I don=92t=20 have it, I don=92t have it. They gave her a week or two before the = case came=20 to court. At the crucial moment, someone called me to tell me that = the=20 person who had owed me money for years was returning the money, = which came=20 just in time for me to send to my daughter the amount that she = needed.=20 Miracles happen every day.

The law says that = every action and=20 reaction must be equal. But what I am receiving now is more than = equal.=20 The return for your right action is like putting money in the bank = for a=20 long time and interest continues rising. So when the return is=20 forthcoming, you will be surprised and wonder how come. There is = no life=20 that is so simple and easy to live as that which obeys the Law of = Balance.=20 People suffer from fear of becoming poor, fear of losing their = position,=20 fear of doing this or that. If you give with love, if you serve = with love,=20 the reward is a hundred-fold. This is true.

The power within us = connects us to=20 God and man, to God and politics. Come to think of it, of all the = elements=20 of human civilization, government is the most powerful of all, but = it can=20 be either destructive or constructive. If the power of government = is used=20 for good, as in the story I was telling you about when I was in = office as=20 Governor, it is lasting. I built a university, for the first time = in the=20 history of that country. I gave free education from nursery school = to the=20 university level. People said, =93Don=92t worry, he=92s going to = collapse.=94 My=20 government never collapsed. It grew stronger and stronger. Love! = All the=20 other political parties in that state collapsed and joined my = party. Love=20 action!

Nobody can resist this = power. To=20 be in Nigerian politics for forty years without a stain=97in fact = to be=20 still alive, is something. I do not see any other force. Had I not = met Lao=20 Russell and the Russell teachings, I would never have become a = governor.=20 Who was going to make me a governor? By what means? I would have = been=20 looking for money. The average man says, =93If you have no money, = don=92t go=20 into politics.=94 When I hear that, I smile. I wish he knew = somebody who had=20 been in politics all his life without a bank account. Yet, when it = comes=20 to the day of need, I have enough money to do what is = required.

As for this Trinity of = God, Man,=20 and Politics, no aspect of it lives an independent life: neither = man, nor=20 God, nor politics is independent of the other. They are a trinity. = And=20 when you apply the three together while you are going about the = world,=20 every day you will be smiling while others are crying. And they = will say=20 it again: voodoo!

In closing I will say: = Do your=20 allotted work. Forget about rewards. Don=92t stop the action. If = you give up=20 action, you=92ll fall. Continue working. Do your allotted work. = Don=92t mind=20 what the world is saying. As a man like Mahatma Gandhi of India, = you can=20 conquer whatever opposition is there. One man with the power of = mind was=20 able to conquer the foreign forces and drive them out of India. = These are=20 not fables. Gandhi did it. He did not throw a pebble at any man, = but he=20 led the struggle that freed India.

Power of the mind! = When you know=20 and use that power, nobody can destroy you, until you have = finished your=20 assignment. This is a statement of fact. Nobody can destroy you. = If you=20 dismiss fears and follow your mission, until you finish it, = nothing will=20 harm you. So why are you afraid? You are carrying something = mightier than=20 the atomic bomb, twenty-four hours a day, and this light surrounds = you=20 twenty-four hours a day, this invisible light. And that=92s what = we=20 are.

Do not look for = reward;=20 nevertheless, it will come. This is the Law of Balance. The moment = you=20 have acted with clear motive, that action will be motivated with = love, and=20 that action will be to render selfless service to those who need = it. And=20 the moment you have rendered that service, go and rest, for the = reward is=20 coming. You do not have to ask for it, you do not have to expect = others to=20 give it to you, for those things limit it. When you give right = action,=20 know that the universal force will bring the reaction and that it = comes a=20 hundred-fold.

Let me give you an = example: On the=20 day I was taken into detention, I had only three hundred in local=20 currency. Then the officials took and detained me elsewhere, and = by the=20 time I came back, the security officers had broken into my = briefcase and=20 taken the money. So I went into detention without a dime. Yet by = the time=20 I was released, I had a lot of money. People brought a lot of = money to=20 prison for me, particularly where I was detained, the place where = their=20 Governor used to be my friend. They brought me so much money and = food that=20 what I did every day was like the story of Joseph: I distributed = money,=20 soap, biscuits=97whatever other prisoners needed, I had it to give = them. So=20 you do not look for reward, for the reward comes, not from a = particular=20 person, but the world will bring it to you.

Continue working! = People say,=20 =93Time to rest! Ah, you have been here all these long donkey = years in=20 politics. Are you not tired?=94 I tell them what Gandhi used to = say, =93If you=20 stop action, you will fall and die.=94 But if you continue = working, without=20 looking for reward, then you will continue to prosper all your = life and to=20 enjoy good health for the completion of your purpose. =20
