The Quest for the Missing = Universal=20 Logic
and Emergent = Science of=20 Logos

Abstract
 

Perhaps the deepest drive in human inquiry through the = ages and=20 across cultures and worldviews, whether in philosophy or science, = has been=20 the quest to encounter and express the fundamental field of = Reality. And=20 when we rise to a truly global perspective and expand our horizon = to=20 incorporate the vast spectrum of investigations and = articulations=97east,=20 west, and other=97certain striking patterns become evident. One = great lesson=20 in this global perspective is that it makes all the difference how = we=20 conduct our minds=97how we process reality.

It = becomes=20 apparent that in the evolution of consciousness=97of cultures, of=20 philosophies, of scientific inquiry=97there has been a relentless = quest to=20 develop or uncover a universal grammar or logic to express the = ultimate=20 principles, patterns, and dynamics of the fundamental field of = Reality.=20 One great lesson in this human drama is that when we conduct our = mind or=20 thinking in egocentric or monocentric = patterns=20 of thought, deep incoherence, incommensurabilities, dualities, = fragmentation, and=20 pathologies of life and reason result. And yet human cultures, = including=20 philosophy and science, continue to be dominated by these = dysfunctional=20 patterns of minding which distort and eclipse our best efforts to = know=20 reality.

The = global=20 perspective makes evident that humanity still lacks an adequate = Universal=20 Grammar or Logic of the Fundamental Reality, and that certain = traditions=20 of science, philosophy, and culture-making in general, continue to be dominated by = reductive patterns=20 of thought that generate rational pathologies that eclipse the = universal=20 grammar of the Unified Field of Reality with devastating = consequences.=20 Here we see that the Fundamental Reality must be an integral, = infinite=20 unified field of dynamic relations, which requires thought = patterns that=20 flow in the Holistic Logic of this Field.

In = this=20 presentation I attempt to bring out the missing Primal Logic of = the=20 Unified Field and seek to draw out the missing Universal Grammar = that is=20 now essential for the advancement of Philosophy and Science. I = suggest=20 that this missing Logic is not only vital for decoding the = ultimate=20 structures, patterns, and dynamics of Reality, but is first and = foremost a=20 Logistic=97a missing technology of mind=97for the right conduct of = thinking,=20 consciousness, world, and the processing of Reality. I suggest = that this=20 Logic of the Unified Field is the maturation of Natural Reason, = which is=20 now essential for the advancement of Science, Philosophy and the=20 flourishing of human cultures.

Prologue

In = these=20 reflections I would like to sketch highlights of my lifelong quest = to=20 clarify and articulate the primal missing logic at the heart of = all=20 worldviews and disciplines. As we shall soon see, I discovered = early in my=20 career that something profound and vital was still missing from = human=20 discourse. Although I instinctively gravitated to the intuition of = a=20 perennial philosophy and knew in a pre-articulated way that there = had to=20 be an ultimate primal principle, an ultimate science of =93what is = first=94, I=20 nevertheless found that the language, technology of mind, and = narrative=20 for this were still missing. The nascent perennial narrative was = still=20 semi-dormant and needed to be brought to mature global=20 articulation. One remarkable disclosure was that the Primordial = Truth that=20 was seeded in diverse traditions was alive, growing, evolving, and = maturing in the global evolutionary process.

It was = clear in=20 my journey through different philosophical and cultural worlds, = east, west=20 and other, that there had to be a fundamental logic, a primal = ontology, a=20 global primordial tradition at the heart of all worldviews. = However, with=20 close critical scrutiny I found that this was still a = presumption=20 and in fact more deep work had to be done to tap the missing = fundamental=20 logic of natural reason, to decode the ultimate grammar of = existence and=20 experience, to bring to full global articulation the intuition of = a=20 perennial philosophical perspective, to develop the language and = narrative=20 of the Unified Field of diverse worlds. We shall see that these=20 innovations and results vindicate the vision of philosophia perennis (perennial philosophy) and = bring to more=20 explicit articulation the missing Primordial Tradition in a global = context.

The = themes and=20 findings that I summarize here have been developed in great detail = in my=20 essays and books, which present my research over the past three = decades.=20 Two companion volumes present the heart of my quest for the = fundamental=20 missing science of Logos: Meditative Reason: Toward Universal=20 Grammar, and Between Worlds: The Emergence of Global = Reason.=20 The first appeared in 1993 in the Revisioning Philosophy Series = of Peter=20 Lang Press, and the second appeared in 1997 in the same Series. = These=20 findings are presented in a simplified narrative in a book = designed for=20 the general reader, which will appear soon: The Awakening of = the Global=20 Mind.

The = Quest for a=20 Global Name for the Primal Principle:  = ((Logos))

((Logos)) as the=20 Logosphere:  Unified Field

In = this=20 meditative reflection we shall use the word ((Logos)) as a = candidate for=20 the Primal Global Principle. And when we meditate on this Primal = Universal=20 Name it becomes immediately apparent that this First Name must be = Infinite=20 and all-pervasive. In such deep reflection it is axiomatic that = the=20 Infinite Name, the Primal Word is the Logosphere=97The = Infinite=20 Cosmic Field of Reality. The Logosphere must be an Infinite = Continuum of=20 Boundless Diversity, Multiplicity, Creativity=97Infinite = Processing. The=20 Infinite Word is Being, is Mind, is Intelligence, is Nature, is = the=20 Substance of the Universe, is Energy, is Tao, is Aum, is God, is Sunyata, Buddhanature, Christ=85. This taps the = global=20 significance of the Biblical genesis: In the Beginning is Logos, = the Word.=20 And this Word is God.

We now = see that=20 the global name, Logos, is boundlessly global in scope and = power.=20 This means that nothing can be apart from It: all names and forms, = all=20 categories=97Space, Time, Cause, Substance, Relation, Process, = Word, Mind,=20 World, Experience, Appearance, Meaning, Value, Cognition=97arise = from the=20 same Origin. This implies, of course, that all of the fundamental=20 categories or =93building blocks=94 of Reality must be originally = and=20 profoundly Inter-relational; they mutually entail each other and = permeate=20 each other. There is a profound Dialogic Dialectic permeating = everything=20 in the Infinite Field.

Logos/Logosphere:

The = Continuum of=20 Reality

All = =93fields=94=20 arise from this same Origin, all grammars, narratives, worldviews, = and=20 perspectives. The very idea of a =93Field=94, a =93Force-Field=94, = arises in this=20 Infinite Word. So the Logosphere is the Infinitely Diverse Unified = Field=20 of all possibilities, of all possible and actual worlds. All = possible=20 worlds coexist and co-arise in each other in the Logosphere. Space = and=20 Time, for example, mutually co-arise in a primal Space-Time = Continuum. But=20 so do all the basic=20 = Categories=97Mind-Word-World-Space-Time-Matter-Cause-Energy-Cognition=97= all=20 form a Primal Continuum of mutual entailment. Tap any one = of these=20 primal categories and all the others are found to be already = implanted=20 within its inner being. Logos makes Relations possible and holds = all=20 things in primal relationality. = Nothing can=20 stand atomically apart; all things co-arise. This is the Dialogic=20 structure of Logos. In this powerful Logic of Logos (the origin of = all=20 possible =93logics=94) the Rational Force of the Logosphere = expresses its=20 global unifying and diversifying power. The implications of this = fact are=20 astounding for the human condition.

Logos = Presides in=20 All Evolution

The = Infinite=20 Force is Infinitely Present in every moment in the Logosphere. In = the=20 Sacred Logic of this Universal and Global Grammar every item in = the=20 Logosphere bears the signature of Logos, every sign co-expresses = Logos,=20 every phenomenon expresses Logos. All evolution is the expression = of the=20 Cosmic Event-Continuum of Logos. It is this simple fact=97that = Logos=20 presides in every moment, in every event, every phenomenon, in = every=20 being, in every act, in every historical happening=97that has been = noticed=20 in diverse perennial traditions.

Logosphere: the=20 Cosmic Continuum

Once = the=20 Infinite Force is recognized and acknowledged it follows = immediately that=20 this Force pervades all existence, situates and constitutes all = existence,=20 and presides throughout the cosmic Unified Field. Diverse = traditions of=20 perennial philosophy have detected this truth in different = formulations.=20 It is such a simple and elementary point in the Logic of Infinition that it appears as a truism to = the global=20 mind. Once the Cosmic Event-Continuum of Logosphere is discovered = it=20 follows immediately that all existence, all evolution and history, = is the=20 creative play of Logos. The evidence of this is overwhelming once = rational=20 intelligence awakens to the Infinite Presence of Logos. It was = clear that=20 humanity had not yet developed the technologies of mind and = language for=20 processing the Logosphere. We still lacked a Science of Logos, a = science=20 of the Logosphere, the foundation of all worldviews. This pure = Formal=20 Science was latent (and presumed) in the diverse classical = perennial=20 traditions and awaited full maturation and emergence in its = explicit globalized form.

As the = Logic of=20 Logos came to increasing clarity over three decades, it was clear = to me=20 that we urgently needed to develop tools and technology, and to = become=20 mindful of when we were in the Grammar of Logos and when we were = in the=20 grammars of egocentric cultures. Remember in this meditation on = Logos that=20 the pathways of awakening move in a recursive loop: The deeper we=20 encounter Logos, the more this invokes the global turn in minding, = the=20 more, in turn, this encourages the expansion of thought and = language,=20 which enhances our capacity to process the = Logosphere.

Symbolic = Markers=20 for the Two Technologies of Mind

In = this=20 recursive dialectic I found it essential over a decade ago to = develop=20 symbolic aids to help us cross over from the patterns of = egocentric=20 minding to the dynamics of global minding in the Logosphere. It = became=20 clear as I experimented across a vast range of worlds, especially = in the=20 meditative traditions, that we needed to make quite explicit when = we are=20 lodged in the egocentric technology of thinking/language and when = we cross=20 into the Logic and Grammar of Logos.

Two = Fundamental=20 =93Logics=94 in the Human Condition

Here I = found it=20 vital in my teaching and research to use special markers: Whenever = we=20 think or speak in the egocentric dynamic of language I flag that = discourse=20 with =93/.../=94 (single brackets), and when we think/speak in the = Grammar of=20 Logos I flagged that discourse with =93((...))=94 (double = brackets). Thus, any=20 word/sign, say, =93X=94 in everyday language may be processed in = the=20 egocentric technology of mind=97/X/, or expressed in the Holistic = Logic of=20 Logos=97((X)). If, for example, we use the word =93I=94: When this = is uttered in=20 the egocentric mind (whatever the worldview may be) this is = specified=20 explicitly as =93/I/=94; but when this word is uttered in the = integral and=20 holistic voice of the Logosphere it is rendered as=20 =93((I))=94.

The = egocentric=20 /I/ takes itself to be a separated and independent being=97an = atomic center=20 of its life and experience. But in the global technology of Logos = the=20 utterance ((I)) expresses a boundlessly interrelated Self in the = Continuum=20 of the Logosphere. This high-powered utterance ((I)) is the voice = of the=20 awakened Self that flows in the hologistic=20 dynamic and Continuum of ((Logos)). In this ((Logic of Logos)) = every ((X))=20 bears the infinite signature of ((Logos)), and is a unique meeting = point=20 of the boundless web of the Logosphere.

(Note:  The=20 development of this ((symbolic)) grammar of Logos played a vital = role in=20 the advancement of my experimental clarification of the Logic of = Logos. It=20 should be clear that from the beginning of these reflections in = this essay=20 I have been attempting to speak the narrative of this essay in the = ((...))=20 discourse. Now that it is explicitly introduced, we may assume = that my=20 intention is to present these reflections on Logos in the ((...))=20 logistic. However, I also use it here to flag special terms for = emphasis,=20 and to mark the contrast with terms in the egocentric discourse. I = have=20 found this to be a powerful teaching device when I present these = ideas in=20 different contexts.)

The = Technology of=20 ((Logos)): The Missing Science

This = is an=20 astounding result of entering the Logic and Language of the = Unified Field.=20 Once we explicitly clarify the use of signs in the egocentric = voice and in=20 the Logocentric voice, dramatic = acceleration=20 ignites. We now see, for example, the difference between /time/ = versus=20 ((Time)): egocentric /time/ is linear and separated from all other = categories in egocentric worldviews; /time/ is broken into pieces = of=20 /past/, /present/ and /future/, which are supposed somehow to = unite in=20 some continuum of /time/. By contrast, in entering ((Time)) in the = Logosphere we see immediately that every ((moment)) of ((Time)), = every=20 ((now)) has an infinition structure in = which all=20 moments of time meet: ((past, present, future)) meet, = ((co-arise)), in=20 every ((now)). The great mystics and meditative thinkers = understood this,=20 but we needed a logical technology=97the ((technology of = Logos))=97to=20 adequately clarify, formulate and express this global truth. To = enter=20 ((...)) is to awaken the ((global mind)), to cross into the = ((global=20 perspective)) where diverse worldviews ((meet and co-arise)). = This, I=20 suggest, is the emergence of the ((Primordial Tradition)) in its = global=20 form.

Testing = the Two=20 Technologies of

Mind in = the Human=20 Condition

((Imagine)) if=20 this were true: ((Logos)) is Real, that all existence is = constituted in an=20 infinitely dynamic and inter-connected Continuum=97the = ((Logosphere)), that=20 all evolution is presided over by the = ((Infinite=20 Presence)) of Logos, that all ((History)), across cultures and = worlds, is=20 saturated with overwhelming ((evidence)) of the ((creative and = causal))=20 power of Logos, that all great developments in the evolution of = human=20 cultures when seen in proper ((context)) reveal that all events in = the=20 Event-Continuum bear witness to and display the presiding = ((Presence)) of=20 Logos. This would call for a radical revisioning=20 and re-contextualizing of our present narratives and perspectives, = indeed,=20 of the ((human condition)). Entering the ((global mind)) changes=20 everything.

The = ((Global=20 Perspective))

Let us = experiment further by entering more deeply into the ((global = perspective))=20 and crossing into the technology of the ((global mind)). When we = stand=20 back from being lodged and fixated in any one worldview and set = aside the=20 egocentric habits of mind (which of course is most difficult), the = horizon=20 of the global perspective emerges. Now we are able to gain access = to=20 multiple alternative worldviews, in their own terms and = grammatical forms;=20 we are able to entertain these diverse perspectives together in = one=20 dialogic rational consciousness. This dilates our rational = capacities and=20 takes us more deeply into the logistic structure of the = Logosphere. As we=20 thus gain ((perspective)), Reality is disclosed in a deeper=20 way.

In = this=20 ((context)) it is more apparent that the =93postmodern=94 mantra = that we=20 =93humans=94 are inherently lodged in localized worldviews or = perspectives is=20 nothing more than a dogma of egocentric discourse. The = self-serving=20 suggestion that the alternative to being in a particularized = /ego/-local=20 perspective is to presume to have a =93view from nowhere=94 = betrays the=20 egocentric prejudices against the living evidence of millennia of=20 meditative experience and of the global perspective in natural = reason. The=20 global perspective=97the power of ((inter-perspectivity))=97is not a =93view from = no-where=94. The=20 choice for awakened reason is not between either an /ego = perspective/ or=20 no =93perspective=94 at all, but between the /egocentric = perspective/ and the=20 ((global perspective)).

Logos = Presides in=20 all Evolutions

As we = enter this=20 ((global perspective)) and focus on the deeper patterns and = developments=20 in the evolution of the human condition over the past three = thousand years=20 or so (a brief moment in ((Time)) in the Logos Story of = Evolution), we are=20 now able to see that there has been a deep drive and relentless = quest to=20 express Logos across cultures and worlds. This is not surprising, = since,=20 as we have seen, the Infinite Force and Presence of Logos (which = is the=20 Logosphere Itself) presides in every moment in all realities. The=20 =93scientific=94 quest to detect and name the ultimate =93force=94 = in the universe=20 hit all sorts of barriers and was not able to reach Logos. But the = Logic=20 of Logos makes quite evident that the Infinite Force of Logos is = most real=20 and cannot but makes its presence felt in all existence, in all = events, in=20 every stage of the dramatic unfolding of evolution. So, when we = scan a=20 range of diverse worlds as we now jump in mid-stream, it is = apparent that=20 the moving force of ((evolution)) is the gravitation to Logos in = boundless=20 ways.

Let us = scan=20 selected cultural traditions and move fast-forward over the past = three=20 millennia. In our Judaic origins we see the emergence of the = breakthrough=20 to Yahweh, the Infinite Living Spirit that must be One. The = recognition that there is an ultimate primal reality that is = Infinite,=20 Living, and One is a significant moment in our common evolution = that taps=20 the Logic of Logos. It is also seen that this Infinite Spirit must = be the=20 generative first cause of all reality. This, too, is a classic = advance.=20 This Judaic articulation of Logos brings with it the recognition = that this=20 Living Presence, which is always infinitely higher, calls on us to = re-orient our lives to love and honor The First with all our = might, with=20 our whole being.

Similarly, in=20 the Hindu Vedic origins it is declared in deepest meditative = revelations=20 that there is an Infinite Originating Source of all = existence=97Aum =96the Sacred Syllable or Word. = In this=20 classic meditative articulation of The First, a grammar of the = Infinite=20 Source is developed, which reveals that all names and forms arise = from=20 Aum, which is also called Brahman, the = Absolute=20 Infinite Being, the First Cause and originating source of all = realities.=20 Here we find an alternative formulation of the Primal Logic of=20 Logos.

Of = course, this=20 tradition, too, in a different way recognizes that this truth of = Aum/Brahman reveals that the true Self is = boundless=20 and beyond the artificially constructed ego that most people = confuse with=20 the Self (which is called Atman). And here too, in tapping = the=20 Logic of Logos this tradition sees that the key to human = flourishing is=20 overcoming the egocentric life, which is seen to be the source of = diverse=20 existential pathologies, and advancing to a higher form of life = that comes=20 with the realization of Atman, true Self = awakening.

To = accelerate,=20 we see a similar pattern in the early Chinese traditions, for = example in=20 the grammar of Tao. This tradition recognizes that there = must be a=20 primal Infinite Nameless Name that is the source of all names. = This is the=20 generative source and cause of all existence. In the early Greek = tradition=20 we find an important origin of the development of philosophy and = science=20 with the recognition that there must be an Ultimate Principle, = Law, Form,=20 Origin, Cause that explains all appearances. The First is = articulated in=20 different ways, and Heraclitus explicitly names it Logos = (Word,=20 Speech, Reason) and the grammar of Logos takes shape in the = advances of=20 Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. So here too we find classic = openings to the=20 Logic of ((Logos)).

Again, = the great=20 awakening of the Buddha bears witness to the emerging drama of = Logos in=20 the human condition. Buddha=92s historic insight was that = egocentric mind is=20 the source of human suffering and that it can be overcome in the = awakening=20 of mind beyond egocentric patterns to radical Emptiness, Sunyata, = the=20 fundamental Law or Dharma in all existence. In Buddha=92s teaching = ultimate=20 Reality is a boundless Field of dynamic interrelationality of all things. All things = are empty=20 of the ego constructs of =93self-existence=94. So here too we find = another=20 alternative formulation of classic features of = Logos.

If we = look at a=20 vast range of =93Indigenous=94 worldviews, this gravitation to = some First=20 (whether Infinite Spirit, Nature, Force) is evident. For example, = in one=20 classic African culture, Dogen, The First is called Nommo=97the Infinite Name that is the = Primal=20 Force that pulsates through all of Nature. So it becomes evident = that some=20 kind of powerful pattern is at work moving human evolution, = diverse=20 cultural worlds, to alternative formulations of Logos. This is = remarkable=20 enough. What is equally = remarkable=20 is that as we look fast-forward over the centuries on a global = scale we=20 also detect deep patterns of Logos emerging in the evolution of = the human=20 condition.

How the = Logos=20 Force Moves Evolution in Shaping the Human = Condition

It is = not=20 co-incidental that diverse cultural traditions would gravitate to = and=20 express The First in the grammar of its worldview. For in the = ((Logos))=20 perspective it is evident that in the deepest fabric of Reality, = the=20 Logosphere, the Infinition dynamic and = dialectic=20 of Logos is recursively and creatively playing itself out in every = ((Moment)), in every ((Event)).

Let us = scrutinize this more carefully. How can we be so confident that = ((Logos))=20 is happening in every situation? The reason is as simple as it is=20 classical: The Infinite (Force) cannot be broken down or localized = in a=20 way that reduces the Infinite Power or Presence; dividing or = localizing=20 the Ultimate =93Stuff=94 of the Universe does not break down its = Infinite=20 structure. Every =93piece=94 of ((Logos)) recursively iterates the = Infinitude=20 of Logos.

This = is another=20 face of the Continuum Force-field: in this pure ((Geometry)) of = Logos the=20 ((Logosphere)) co-extends boundlessly, opening sacred ((Space)). = Yet every=20 ((point)) in the Logosphere reflects and reiterates the entire = Field and=20 thus bears the ((signature)) of Logos. In the case of humans, = classical=20 traditions recognize that there is that of ((God)), Logos, in = every=20 Person; or that the Kingdom of Logos is within, or ((at hand)). = Each=20 Person, then, expresses uniquely the ((Image of Logos)), and this = is the=20 sacred origin of the ((Individuality)) of each Person. But now in = ((Logos=20 Science)) we see that all ((points)) reiterate the Logos structure = is a=20 sacred ((center)) of the Logosphere. In this way each ((item)) = in the=20 Universe is ((holonomic)), a ((holon)) = expressing uniquely and differently the ((Logos Principle)). = For=20 this reason one would naturally expect to find in the dynamics of=20 ((evolution)) the playing out of the Self-Expression of Logos in = every=20 direction. 

Quest = for the=20 Ultimate ((Pattern))

To see = this more=20 clearly we need to look more deeply into the global ((pattern)) of = Logos=20 emerging in the play of evolution and the human condition. When a = new=20 =93science=94 arises, we should expect that what was taken as = =93given=94 before=20 now becomes accounted for or explained, which means giving the = =93logos=94 of=20 it. And in the primal ((Science)) of what-is-first we should = expect that=20 ultimate matters will be accounted for more deeply. For as we now = enter=20 mid-stream to clarify the ((global perspective)) fast-forward over = the=20 past three thousand years or so we are making great presumptions: = We are=20 taking as a =93given=94 that there are humans, with consciousness, = culture,=20 language, mind, meaning, worldviews, narratives, perspectives. But = here we=20 are precisely attempting to place all this in the ((context)) of = the=20 missing Story of Logos. How is the ((logos pattern)) playing out = in the=20 emergence of human reason? in consciousness? in language, in mind = and=20 world? How do worldviews arise? How are mind, word, and world = mutually=20 connected? How do diverse worldviews arise? How are diverse = disciplinary=20 languages/perspectives generated?

In = reflecting=20 deeply and rigorously on these ultimate questions it is essential = to=20 ((remember)) that in the Logosphere ((word)), ((mind)) and = ((world))=20 mutually permeate and pervade each other in the deepest way. This = is the=20 deep structure of ((Logos)): Logos is the Infinite ((Word)), which = is=20 ((Infinite Mind)), which is ((Reality)) itself. The egocentric = mind is not=20 able to ((process)) this primal truth. In the ((Logic)) of the = Logosphere,=20 the unified field of Existence is ((language)) is ((mind)) is = ((energy)).=20 The ultimate ((stuff)) of the Universe is ((meaning energy)), and = this is=20 the essence of ((life)). In this context of the ((Unified Field)), = the=20 Event-Continuum of Logos plays out in ((time)). Each Primal = ((Name)) or=20 ((category)) or ((field)) is filled with the others. This is the = original=20 infinition/differential structure of = ((Infinite=20 Unity)). Every ((item)) in the Logosphere reverberates this = dialectical=20 pattern.

Evolution as the=20 Unfolding of the ((Logos Pattern))

With = this in=20 ((mind)) let us now scrutinize some prominent patterns as the = human=20 condition takes shape over millennia. Deep in classical traditions = on a=20 global scale we see a relentless quest for what-is-first. The = Infinite=20 Force is like a boundless gravitational field that both generates = all=20 items and attracts them at their core. As ((human matter)) = evolves,=20 consciousness dawns. And the deepest pulse of the emergence of=20 consciousness is the awakening of reflective self-awareness. So ((Being)) = as =20 ((Form)) is originally filled with ((Word)), ((Mind)), and=20 ((Universe))=97((Logosphere)). All through the ages it has been = assumed that=20 there is some deep link between =93Form=94, =93Word=94, = =93Meaning=94, =93Mind=94,=20 =93Truth=94, and =93Force=94, and =93World=94. But now in the = context of this Formal=20 Science of ((Logos)) we see more clearly how and why these are = indeed=20 deeply connected. The assumption that =93logical form=94 is the = binding force=20 that holds Mind, Word, and World together is now illuminated = through the=20 rational force of ((Logos)). Here we find the ultimate moving=20 force/dynamic in the ((human condition))=97the emergence of = ((Logos)), the=20 awakening of Mind, Word, World=97as ((Logos)) reflexively = Self-expresses in=20 the Logosphere.

The = Great=20 ((Quest)) in Human Life

If we = now look=20 at the evolving human condition through these ((eyes)), we see a=20 remarkable drama unfolding on a global scale. It is now more = evident that=20 there is a deep drive in humans for =93meaning=94, for =93life=94, = on the=20 individual and corporate/tribal level. The primal drive in the = human=20 situation for meaning, well-being, for life and even for knowledge = is=20 evidence of the creative unfolding of the Logos dynamic=97Infinite = Form=20 expressing itself in human flesh. It is little wonder then that = diverse=20 classical cultures would gravitate to what-is-first ((Logos, Form, = Word))=20 as the source of meaning, truth, value, being, and life. But this = quest=20 for ultimate meaning in life comes with the creative = self-articulation of=20 language and mind=97the technology of grammar and minding. Here we = see that=20 human life becomes self-articulated in a worldview, in a grammar = of life,=20 that taps the boundless reservoir of ((meaning, being, life)) in=20 particular ways.

The = Emergence of=20 ((Form))

Shapes = the Human=20 Condition

Whether we look=20 at our Judaic origins in its struggle to discern, recognize, and = express=20 ((God)), or the Vedic breakthrough to the ultimate word ((Aum)), or the Greek struggle to clarify = meaning as=20 =93form=94, as Logos, in the philosophical lives of Socrates, = Plato, and=20 Aristotle, we see relatively early signs of the gravitation to the = grammar=20 of ((Logos)) in the human condition. It is not accidental, for = example,=20 that the Socratic quest for meaning and value would lead to the = birth of=20 =93form=94 and =93essence=94 and the discourse of =93reason=94. = This early gesture=20 towards birthing the grammar of Logos unfolded over millennia into = our=20 contemporary struggles to give an account of meaning in life. But = what is=20 also revealed in these (and other) early articulations of the = Infinite=20 Word is the growing recognition that we humans are as we mind. = The=20 great perennial quest for ((Meaning)) comes with the realization = that=20 how we mind (the technology of minding) is all important in = shaping=20 our living realities.

We Are = As We=20 Mind

Let us = go more=20 deeply into this global truth. We just suggested that there is a = holonomic, recursive, creatively unfolding = dialectic=20 of Logos expressing itself in the Logosphere. This dynamic of the = Infinite=20 Word=97Infinite Form=97is ((happening)) at all times in the = Logosphere. This=20 emerging self-formulation of Infinite Form is the driving force of = ((evolution)) and the key factor in understanding the continuing = evolution=20 of the human condition. In this respect the ((Logos Story)) = provides the=20 global foundation of all =93evolutionary=94 narratives from = Genesis to the=20 =93Big Bang=94, including such diverse accounts as that of Darwin, = Hegel,=20 Marx, Teilhard, and = others.

When = we=20 ((remember)) that the Logosphere is Infinite Form being = formulated, and=20 that this ((Form)), this ((Infinite Word/Universal Grammar)) is = the origin=20 and generative meeting point of all Language, Mind, Phenomena, of = all=20 worldviews and perspectives, this makes it easier to ((see)) that=20 Existence itself is the unfolding of Language/Grammar/Mind and is=20 saturated with ((meaning)). It is the ((Logosphere)) that = philosophy,=20 science, religion and common sense are trying to process and = explain. But=20 egocentric patterns of minding most often block, eclipse, deform, = and=20 repress this Primal Field of Reality.

But = let us look=20 more carefully at this. The human condition is under ongoing=20 self-evolution, and the ((Logos Event)) is the driving force at = the heart=20 of human evolution. As the human form matures and takes shape, all = of the=20 primary features of human life mutually co-shape and transform one = another=20 influenced by the Logos dialectic. This means that Reason, = Thought,=20 Language, Meaning, Perspective, Experience are under ongoing = maturation=20 and evolution as Logos emerges. As we now reflect on global = developments=20 over the past three millennia it is easier to see that humans have = been in=20 a deep struggle to mature beyond the egocentric patterns of = minding=20 (language, thought, world-making, experience) into the more = integral,=20 holistic, and dialogic patterns of minding the Logosphere. In this = drama,=20 as suggested earlier, we see that in diverse ways the great = teachers and=20 revolutionaries have been attempting to usher humanity beyond the=20 dysfunctional and pathological ways of egocentric life into the = higher=20 technology of minding the Unified Field of = Reality.

As the = human=20 form matures, our capacity to process and =93metabolize=94 the = Logosphere=20 deepens. To say we are =93rational=94 beings is to say that we are = as we=20 mind=97that we arise in language, in grammar; that we participate = in making=20 our worlds, shaping worldviews through forms of interpretation; = that we=20 both shape and are shaped by our grammar or worldview; that we = have a=20 voice in determining the phenomena that appear to us. To be human = is to=20 participate in world-making=97we are ((grammatical)) beings. All = of this=20 clarifies the global truth: ((we are as we mind)). It took = millennia to=20 clarify that humans come to be and arise in worldviews involving = patterns=20 of interpretation and making sense of things. And one of the great = themes=20 in the global ((perspective)) is that egocentric patterns of=20 interpretation and world-making have had disastrous consequences = for the=20 quality of human life.

In = this=20 ((perspective)) a striking pattern emerges: In the continuing = evolution of=20 the ((human condition)) two powerful opposing forces have been at = work and=20 play. We have seen that the egocentric mind with its monocentric patterns is an immature stage in = human=20 development. And every great advance in every field, in every = aspect of=20 cultural evolution, has been the overcoming of egocentric = fragmentation=20 and the painful but inexorable emergence of the holistic, = dialogic, and=20 global patterns of culture-making. In this drama and living = dialectic of=20 Logos the forces of rational awakening work in, through, and = against the=20 divisive forces of egocentric life to open ever higher global = space for=20 human flourishing.

This = is as true=20 of the globalizing of our inner personal space as it is true of = the=20 humanizing and civilizing of our shared corporate space in the = life of the=20 polis. It is equally true in every aspect of our cultural lives, = in every=20 field and discipline, and certainly in the evolution of the = sciences.=20 Indeed, it is now apparent that the key advance in scientific = method turns=20 not on the ego-ideologies and dogmas of empiricism but in the = revisionary and dialogical patterns in the=20 globalization of human reason and inquiry.

The = highest=20 virtues in =93scientific method=94 are the ((dialogical virtues)) = of openness=20 to the objective alterity of Reality, the = experimental spirit=20 of being ever open to self-revision and the creative encounter of = multiple=20 alternative narratives and perspectives in the quest for = ((truth)). The=20 essence of the scientific disposition is the dialogic or global or = experimental attitude that deepens with the awakening of the = global mind.=20 And this is as true in our inner personal life, in our deepest = spiritual,=20 religious and moral strivings, as it is in our ongoing attempts to = open=20 sacred space for our shared civic and political life. In this = respect=20 then, the awakening of the scientific spirit is at its core the = awakening=20 of the global mind in the quest to express Logos in every aspect = of the=20 human condition.
